You could need a root canal even if you experience no pain or symptoms in your teeth.
During your consultation, Dr. Jeffrey Anderson will perform an oral exam and take x-rays of your mouth to get a closer look at the shape of the root canals and where the infection is
A rubber dam will be placed over the affected tooth to keep it dry and prevent contamination. You will be given a local anesthetic and then we will drill into the top of the tooth, remove the pulp, and thoroughly clean the canals.
The canals will then be filled with a gutta-percha and sealed with a temporary filling.
At your final appointment, the opening of the tooth will be sealed with a permanent filling and a crown may be cemented onto the tooth.
Despite the common belief that root canals are painful, they are designed to relieve pain caused by damaged tissue & the treatment feels similar to a filling.
Despite the common belief that root canals are painful, they are no more painful than other common dental procedures like fillings. Patients often complain about pain before the root canal, often due to infection that causes irritation and can spread through the body if left untreated. However, after the first root canal appointment where the pulp is removed, they are relieved of their pain.
If you are nervous about feeling pain during a root canal treatment, you can take comfort in knowing that you will be given a numbing agent and a local anesthetic so you won’t feel any pain. If anything, you will likely feel more relieved and comfortable as a result of your root canal treatment.
You will receive a local anesthetic before we begin the root canal procedure, which will numb the area. The most pain you will feel is from the injection of the anesthetic. We also place a rubber dam over the tooth we are going to work on to keep the tooth dry, which prevents instruments from falling into the mouth and prevents contamination.
