Dental implants are tiny titanium screws that are designed to function as artificial tooth roots. They are designed to be surgically placed into your mouth, replacing the roots of missing teeth.
After they’re placed, dental implants can support a wide variety of dental restorations. For example, a single crown can be placed on a dental implant, two implants can be used to support a bridge, or multiple dental implants can be used to support a full set of implant dentures.
Interested in dental implants in Vista? Dr. Jeffrey Anderson is here to help. To learn more about implants and see if they’re a good choice for you, contact us online to schedule a consultation at Vista Smiles right away.
Dental implants are made of titanium because of titanium’s ability to permanently bond (osseointegrate) with bone tissue.
To begin the process, you’ll come to our office for a consultation with Dr. Anderson. He will examine your mouth and determine if you’re a good candidate for treatment with dental implants. If you’re approved, he will refer you to a dental implant specialist in Vista for your implant surgery.
Your implant specialist will develop a surgical plan, and you will visit them for implant placement surgery. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, then an opening will be made in your gums and jaw. Then, the implant will be placed and the area will be sutured shut.
You’ll be sent home to heal and recover. Initial healing takes about 1-2 weeks, but it will take up to 6 months for your implant to heal. During this time, you’ll come in for follow-ups at our office to have your implant restoration built.
Once your mouth has healed, you’ll come back to Vista Smiles for a final consultation. Dr. Anderson will check your implant restoration to ensure it fits perfectly, then bond it into place.
Dental implants last 30+ years with proper placement and care, making them the longest-lasting way to restore missing teeth.
First, dental implants have a longer lifespan than any alternative treatment for missing teeth. Most patients can keep them for the rest of their lives. They also require minimal special care, and are very comfortable, since they never shift or move, unlike dentures.
Dental implants also look and feel exactly like missing teeth. And unlike other methods of tooth restoration, they help protect and preserve your jaw bone after tooth loss, which helps preserve both your appearance and your oral health.
If you have a healthy mouth but have lost one or more teeth, dental implants are likely a good option for you. However, they may not be the best option if you have major oral health issues, or conditions that have weakened your jaw bone.
